The 2007 Texas Community Forestry
Awards Program celebrates the accomplishments of those who
have dedicated their talents to spreading a leafy green canopy
over Texas. This program is open to anyone who has
a role in building stronger communities by planting, maintaining
or protecting trees.
Winners were announced during the annual
Texas Tree
Conference held in Waco. Each award winner received a remarked,
signed and framed, limited-edition print
of a painting specially commissioned for the program. This years
award painting was the
Las Cuevas Ebony - the anchor for the last hand pulled ferry
on the U.S.-Mexican border.
The Texas Community Forestry Awards Program is
sponsored by the Texas Forest Service and the Texas Chapter of the International Society of
Arboriculture.
There were three award
categories this year:
Arborist of the Year:
Nominations
for individual awards were evaluated for leadership,
commitment, innovation, impact and sustainability.
Arborist of the Year nomination form
Arboricultural Project of the Year:
Recognition of a specific tree planting, care, or
protection project that exemplifies modern arboricultural
practices and customer service. Nominees included
arborists, tree care companies, landscape contractors, etc.

The Gold Leaf Award
is
designed to recognize an individual, organization, or community
for outstanding Arbor Day programs or community landscape
beautification projects. Projects showed an impact over
several years. Nominations for the award can be made in either
of the following two categories:
Outstanding
Arbor Day Activities
–
An award to recognize individuals, organizations, or
municipalities that have promoted Arbor Day through special
projects, ceremonies, news articles or observations with an
Arbor Day theme.
Outstanding Landscape Beautification Activities
–
An award to recognize individuals, organizations, or
municipalities that have made significant contributions through
tree planting and landscaping which enhances environmental
protection, conservation, beautification, energy conservation,
or wildlife protection. Could also be for non-planting landscape
activities that have had a positive impact in promoting tree
care and tree preservation.
