and Tree Conference Scholarships Available


A limited number of $275 scholarships are available to city employees to attend the Day with Ed Gilman or Bonnie Appleton Workshop and the 2009 Texas Tree Conference in Round Rock.

To apply, please send an email to John Giedraitis at jpg@tfs.tamu.edu with your name, title, the city that you work for, your municipal tree management responsibilities and if you would attend if you didn't receive a scholarship. You will promptly receive an email response.
You must apply by the Conference early registration deadline of September 14, 2009.

Spend a day with Dr. Appleton as she discusses and demonstrates how bare root planting can help solve many of today’s urban tree problems. Topics covered will include:

Correct rooting depth
Soil issues & characteristics
Damaged & defective roots
Buried graft unions

Pros/cons of container, B & B, and bare rootstock
Root washing methods

Join Dr. Gilman as he gives first hand accounts on how to properly manage trees to survive the stormy South.

How to correctly manage for trees in the urban landscape
Time-tested methods of proper pruning techniques
Post-storm restoration techniques
Numerous other tips & techniques based on years of successful and realistic field research

Thursday and Friday, October 1 and 2, 2009

Hear from national, state and local experts on the latest research on tree ordinances, inventories and master plans, public relations and communications. You will also hear from "The Best In Texas" - case studies presented by your peers from other Texas cities. You are also invited to attend a free municipal tree managers networking breakfast.
